O'r Ddarllenfa
Y newyddion diweddaraf o Gadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor a Bro Deiniol
Y Sul hwn a'r wythnos o'n blaenau...
Y Plygain
Mae’n diolch yn fawr i aelodau o deulu’r Gadeirlan fu’n cefnogi gwasanaeth y Plygain nos Wener. Da oedd cynnwys yn offrwm traddodiadol hwn o fawl Cymreig yn ein harlwy yn nhymor y Nadolig.
Esgob Enlli
Ymestynnwn longyfarchiadau twymgalon i’n Canon Secundus, Canon David Morris, ar ei benodiad yn Esgob Enlli ac yn Esgob Cynorthwyol yn Esgobaeth Bangor. Rydym wedi elwa’n fawr o weinidogaeth y Darpar-Esgob yn y Gadeirlan ers iddo ddychwelyd i Fangor, ac edrychwn ymlaen at gefnogi ei weinidogaeth esgobol yn y blynyddoedd i ddod. Cynhaliwch y Darpar-Esgob yn eich gweddïau wrth iddo baratoi ar gyfer ei Gysegriad yn ddiweddarach eleni.
La Nativité du Seigneur
Nos Fercher yma am 6.00pm rydym yn croesawu Mark Brafield i’r Gadeirlan am ddatganiad organ arbennig gyda’r nos, yn syth ar ôl y Gosber ar Gân am 5.30pm. Bydd yn perfformio ail gyfansoddiad mawr Olivier Messiaen ar gyfer yr organ, La Nativité du Seigneur – myfyrdod gwreiddiol, technegol gymhleth ond emosiynol a didwyll mewn naw symudiad yn seiliedig ar stori’r Geni. Mae croeso i bawb ac mae mynediad am ddim.
Y Cwstos
Ac yntau wedi gwasanaethu’r Gadeirlan am ddwy flynedd, daw cyfnod Simon Taylor fel ein Cwstos i ben heddiw. Bydd cyfle i ddiolch yn ffurfiol i Simon a dymuno’n dda iddo ar ôl y Choral Holy Eucharist.
Messiah
Ar drothwy tymor dwys y Grawys, ymunwch â ni am 6.00pm nos Sul 11 Chwefror ar gyfer perfformiad defosiynol o Rannau II a III o’r Messiah gan George Frideric Handel.
Mae Rhan II o’r Messiah yn adrodd hanes Dioddefaint a marwolaeth Crist, ei Atgyfodiad a’i Ddyrchafael, a lledaeniad cyntaf yr Efengyl, gan arwain at gyhoeddiad gogoneddus o ogoniant Duw yng nghorws yr Haleliwia. Mae Rhan III’n archwiliad cyfrin mewn cân o’r addewid o dragwyddoldeb: “Mi wn fod fy Mhrynwr byw,” medd y soprano ar ei gychwyn; “Teilwng yw’r Oen” yw canmoliaeth y Corws ar ei ddiwedd.
Bydd y gerddoriaeth yn cael ei chanu gan Gôr y Gadeirlan, gyda’r unawdwyr ar gyfer yr ariâu hardd wed ei dwyn o’i rengoedd; a bydd y perfformiad yn cael ei arwain gan ein Cyfarwyddwr Cerdd, Joe Cooper.
Mae tocynnau wrth y drws ac ar werth ar ddiwedd gwasanaethau’r Sul yn £12 (£5 consesiynau myfyrwyr).
Dydd Mercher y Lludw
Mae Dydd Mercher y Lludw, y diwrnod sy’n nodi dechrau’r Grawys, i’w gadw eleni ar 14 Chwefror. Dyma atgof da y dylem ni, yng Nghymru, ddathlu cariadon ar Ddiwrnod Santes Dwynwen, 25 Ionawr, gan fod i Ddydd San Ffolant berwyl gwell eleni. Ar Ddydd Mercher y Lludw offrymir y Cymun Bendigaid ar Gân ag Arddodi Lludw yn ddwyieithog yn y Gadeirlan am 12.30pm a hefyd am 6.00pm. Rhowch flaenoriaeth i’ch presenoldeb yn un o’r dathliadau hyn yn eich dyddiadur, fel y gall eich hymrwymiad i’r Garawys ddechrau’n fyfyriol, yn benydiol, yn sagrafenaidd ac yn brydferth.

Hollalluog Dduw, a ysbrydolaist dy esgob Deiniol i gasglu o’i gwmpas gymuned o Gristnogion i gyd-fyw bywyd cytun; caniatâ i ni, sy’n anrhydeddu’r cof amdano, weithio i atgyfnerthu teulu dy Eglwys mewn ffydd, gobaith a chariad; trwy Iesu Grist ein Gwaredwr. Amen.

The latest news from Saint Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor and the Ministry Area of Bro Deiniol
This Sunday and the week ahead...
Plygain
Our thanks is due to members of the Cathedral family who supported the Plygain service on Friday night. It was good indeed to include this traditional offering of Welsh praise in our worship this Christmastide.
A new Bishop of Bardsey
We offer our warmest congratulations to our Canon Secundus, Canon David Morris, on his appointment as Bishop of Bardsey, an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Bangor. We have benefitted greatly from the Bishop-Designate’s ministry at the Cathedral since his return to Bangor, and we look forward to supporting his episcopal ministry in the years to come. Please hold the Bishop-Designate in your prayers as he prepares for his Consecration later this year.
La Nativité du Seigneur
This Wednesday evening at 6.00pm we welcome Mark Brafield to the Cathedral for a special evening organ recital, immediately following Choral Evensong at 5.30pm. He will be performing Olivier Messiaen’s second major cycle of organ music, La Nativité du Seigneur – an original, technically complex but emotional and sincere meditation in nine movements based on the Christmas story. All are welcome and entrance is free.
The Custos
Following two years of service, Simon Taylor’s time as our Custos comes to an end today. There will be an opportunity formally to thank Simon and to wish him well after the Choral Holy Eucharist.
Messiah
On the threhold of the holy season of Lent, join us at 6.00pm on Sunday 11 February for a devotional performance of Parts II & III of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.
Part II of Messiah tells the story of Christ’s Passion and death, his Resurrection and Ascension, and the first spreading of the Gospel, culminating in the glorious proclamation of God’s glory in the Hallelujah chorus. The mystical Part III is an exploration in song of the promise of eternal life: “I know that my Redeemer liveth,” sings a soprano at its outset; “Worthy is the Lamb,” acclaims the Chorus at its end.
The music will be sung by the Cathedral Choir, with the soloists for Messiah’s beautiful arias drawn from its ranks; and the performance will be conducted by our Director of Music, Joe Cooper.
Tickets on the door and for sale at the end of Sunday services are £12 (£5 student concessions).
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday, on which day we solemnly mark the beginning of Lent, falls this year on 14 February. It’s a good reminder that we ought, in Wales, to celebrate lovers on Saint Dwynwen’s Day, 25 January, as Saint Valentine’s Day is otherwise engaged this year. On Ash Wednesday a bilingual Choral Holy Eucharist with the Imposition of Ashes is offered at the Cathedral both at 12.30pm and also at 6.00pm. Please prioritise your attendance at one of these celebrations in your diary, so that your observance of a holy Lent might begin reflectively, penitentially, sacramentally and beautifully.
