Y newyddion diweddaraf o Gadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor a Bro Deiniol

Pawb ar eu traed ar gyfer corws yr Halelwia

Hysbys wythnosol

Meseia

Mwynhaodd dros 100 o bobl berfformiad aruthrol o Feseia Handel yn y Gadeirlan yr wythnos ddiwethaf hon.

Cyflwynwn longyfarchiadau twymgalon am eu proffesiynoldeb, eu creadigrwydd a’u gwaith caled i Gôr y Gadeirlan, y cerddorion o’r Brifysgol a thu hwnt a ffurfiodd y gerddorfa, ein Cyfarwyddwr Cerdd, ein Organydd, y stiwardiaid ar y noson, a Simon Ogdon a baratôdd y cyfieithiad Cymraeg ac â oresgynnodd heriau ymarferol yn rasol a rhwydd.

Diolch iddynt oll.

Rhagofalon Cofid

Ysgrifenna’r Is-Ddeon:

Mae’r rhain yn ddyddiau pryderus wrth i ni fonitro datblygiadau diwedderaf Cofid.

Hoffwn eto ein hannog ni oll i gymryd rhan yn yr ymdrechion brechu ac atgyfnerthu cyfredol. Mae ymateb yn brydlon i’r cyfleoedd i gael ein brechu a derbyn y pigiad atgyfnerthu yn rhywbeth pendant y gallwn ni i gyd ei wneud i chwarae ein rhan i gadw ein hunain ac eraill yn ddiogel.

Mae ein pedwar prif rhagofal Cofid yn y Gadeirlan yn parhau i fod mewn grym. Maent wedi eu hargraffu ar daflen ar wahân gyda threfn y gwasanaeth bellach. Mae’r daflen honno hefyd yn ein gwahodd i nodi arni fanylion Profi Olrhain Amddiffyn neu ddefnyddio’r côd QR i fewngofnodi arlein.

O 2 Ionawr ymlaen, mae’n debygol y bydd angen cadw pellter ffurfiol o 2 fedr rhwng unigolion neu deuluoedd yn y Gadeirlan, a bydd canllawiau pellach ynghylch hynny maes o law.

Ar hyn o bryd, bwriadwn barhau i gynnig arlwy lawn o ddefodau yn y Gadeirlan yn y flwyddyn newydd. Mae’n debyg mai dygymod â rhagofalon Cofid cyfnewidiol a’u hymgorffori i’n patrwm o ymgynnull yw’r dyfodol o’n blaenau am beth amswer eto.

Rwy’n falch y byddwn yn gallu ymgynnull yn y Gadeirlan i ddathlu’r Ŵyl yn llawen dros y dyddiau nesaf. Gadewch imi eich hannog i gyfranogi yn yr arlwy gyfoethog i’r graddau y medrwch; i gadw gweinidogaeth y Gadeirlan yn eich gweddïau ble bynnag yr ydych dros yr wythnosau a ddaw; ac i ofalu amdanoch eich hunain ac am eich gilydd.

“Wele, fe anwyd Brenin yr angylion: O deuwch ac addolwn Grist o’r nef.”

The latest news from Saint Deiniol's Cathedral in Bangor and the Ministry Area of Bro Deiniol

All on their feet for the Halleluia chorus

Weekly notices

Messiah

Over a 100 people enjoyed a tremendous performance of Handel’s Messiah in the Cathedral this past week.

Huge congratulations for their professionalism, creativity and hard work are due to the Cathedral Choir, the musicians from the University and beyond who formed the orchestra, our Director of Music, our Organist, the stewards on the evening, and Simon Ogdon who prepared the Welsh-language text and dealt with numerous logistical challenges with great grace.

Many thanks to them all.

Covid precautions

The Sub-Dean writes:

These are anxious days as we monitor Covid developments.

Allow me to urge us all, once more, to take a full part in the vaccination and booster efforts. Responding promptly to the opportunities to be vaccinated and boosted is something concrete that we can all do to play our part in keeping ourselves and others safe.

Our four major Covid precautions at the Cathedral continue to be in force. They are now printed on a separate sheet included in the order of service. The sheet also invites us to note details for Test, Trace, Protect purposes, or to check-in online using the QR code.

From 2 January onwards, it is likely that a formal distance of 2 meters will need to be maintained between individuals or families in the Cathedral, and further guidance will be provided in due course.

At present, we intend to continue to offer our full range of observances at the Cathedral in the New Year. Coping with changeable Covid precautions and incorporating them into our pattern of assembly is probably the future that awaits us for some time yet.

I am glad that we will to be able to gather together in the Cathedral to celebrate a joyful Christmastide over coming days. Let me encourage you to participate as fully as you are able to do; to keep the Cathedral’s ministry in your prayers wherever you are over the weeks ahead; and to take care of yourselves and of one another.

“We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell: O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel.”

A Ceremony of Hope

Christmas Lessons and Carols by Candlelight
Sunday 19 December
5.30pm

Come to be part of our Ceremony of Hope this Sunday evening at 5.30pm, when we will hear and sing Christmas lessons and carols by candlelight. The lessons and carols will be familiar to us, but we will hear them this year standing where are, wearied by Covid, looking more than a little anxiously to the future, and worried about the most vulnerable members of our families and communities. We have need of these familiar words of hope this year.

Plygain y Nadolig

Wednesday 23 December
7.30pm

An opportunity to gather for a celebration of a contemporary take on the traditional Welsh-language Christmas Plygain. Woven through a selection from the Office of Evening Prayer will be performances by soloist Erin Fflur and the Cathedral Choir. We will also sing carols and listen to poems and reflections that will take us on a journey alongside the key characters of the first Christmas. You are warmly invited to join in this traditional and contemporary experience of this Welsh-language celebration of the Spirit of Christmas.

Buchedd Bangor

The new magazine of Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor

This first edition is a companion to the period from Advent Sunday (28 November) until the end of Christmastide on Candlemas Day (30 January). It offers a mixture of devotional material and practical knowledge about our life together.

Click on the image above to read a copy.

The intention is to publish five issues of Buchedd Bangor over the course of the year, each coinciding with a specific period in the Cathedral’s worshipping life, and complementing a series of Sunday morning sermons that will guide us through each period.

Pages 40-43 of Buchedd Bangor outline the rich and wonderful celebrations taking place at the Cathedral over Advent and Christmas, in addition to our regular observances and Christmas Eucharists.

Please be sure to put these and other dates in your diaries.

Please also take copies away to give to others to introduce them to the life and buzz of the Cathedral.
