Goleuadau yng Nghorff yr Eglwys a’r Eiliau
Rydym yn falch iawn y bydd gwaith yn cychwyn yn ystod yr wythnos sy’n dechrau 31 Hydref i adnewyddu’r goleuadau yng Nghorff yr Eglwys a’r Eiliau, gan osod gwifrau newydd hefyd.
Nid yw’r gwaith hwn yn ailweirio cyflawn a pharhaol yng Nghorff yr Eglwys a’r Eiliau – rhaid i hynny ddisgwyl am brosiect mwy cynhwysfawr.
Yn anffodus, mae hyn yn golygu y bydd peth o’r gwifrau newydd yn fwy amlwg; fodd bynnag, mae’r angen am oleuadau sy’n gweithio yn golygu bod hwn yn bris sy’n werth ei dalu, a bydd yn sbardun i brosiect mwy.
Mae’r goleuadau newydd eu hunain yn amnewidiadau parhaol a byddant ychydig yn gweddu ffabrig y Gadeirlan ychydig yn well na’r rhai sydd ar yno ar hyn o bryd. Byddant hefyd yn sylweddol fwy cyfeillgar i’r amgylchedd.
Bydd angen codi twr sgaffaldiau symudol tra bydd y gwaith yn digwydd – a fydd yn achosi rhywfaint o anghyfleustra na ellir ei osgoi. Bydd hefyd yn caniatáu mynd i’r afael â rhai ardaloedd o afliwiad a achoswyd gan dreiddiad dŵr hanesyddol yn yr uchderau.
Mae hwn i gyd yn waith costus – cofiwch hyn, please, o ran eich cefnogaeth ariannol i’r Gadeirlan..
Canopi Gwyrdd y Frenhines
Menter plannu coed yw Canopi Gwyrdd y Frenhines a grëwyd i nodi Jiwbilî Platinwm Ei Mawrhydi Y Frenhines yn 2022.
Mae llu o bobl, o unigolion i grwpiau cymunedol, pentrefi, dinasoedd, siroedd, ysgolion a chwmnïau, yn cael eu hannog i chwarae eu rhan i wella ein hamgylchedd trwy blannu coed yn ystod y tymor plannu swyddogol rhwng Hydref 2021 a Mawrth 2022.
Rydym yn falch iawn bod Arglwydd Raglaw Ei Mawrhydi dros Wynedd, Edmund Seymour Bailey, wedi rhoi coeden i’r Gadeirlan, i’w phlannu yng Nghlos y Gadeirlan ar ran ysgolion cynradd Bangor.
Cynhaliwyd y seremoni blannu, ym mhresenoldeb yr Arglwydd Raglaw, Cadeirydd Cyngor Gwynedd, a phartïon o blant o ysgolion cynradd Bangor, y dydd Gwener diwethaf hwn.
Plannwyd y goeden i’r dwyrain o ffenestr ddwyreiniol y Gadeirlan. Cymerodd yr Is-Ddeon a’r Canon Bywyd Gynulleidfaol ran yn y ddefod, a defnyddiwyd y weddi sy’n dilyn.
Rydym yn ddiolchgar i’n ffrindiau o Ymddiriedolaeth Archeolegol Gwynedd, a oedd wrth law i oruchwylio cloddio’r twll mewn darn o dir sy’n sensitif yn archeolegol.
Hollalluog Dduw, rwyt ti’n ein dysgu bod dy ffordd di, dy ddyfodol i ni, fel yr hedyn mwstard – yn fach yn ein dwylo, ond yn llawn addewid, yn esgor ar goeden nerthol sy’n cysgodi adar yr awyr a chreaduriaid y ddaear.
Rydyn ni’n diolch i ti am Ei Mawrhydi Y Frenhines – am ei bywyd o wasanaeth dan gysgod dy adain; am sefydlogrwydd ei theyrnasiad, gan gysgodi ein cenhedloedd. Rydyn ni’n diolch i ti am dy greadigaeth, dy loches i ni, a roddwyd i ni fel ein cartref daearol; yn amdo y mae gennym ofal amdano, i gysgodi cenedlaethau’r dyfodol yn eu tro.
+ Bendithia’r goeden hon – yn arwydd i ni o addewid bywyd newydd; o’n stiwardiaeth dros y greadigaeth; ac o ganghennau ffyddlondeb, cariad a dyletswydd sy’n ein clymu ni i’n gilydd yn y Deyrnas hon, yn ein cymuned, yn ein hysgolion, ac yn dy wasanaeth, yn awr ac am yr oesoedd i ddod;

Cymun Bendigaid dros y meirw
Offrymwyd y Cymun Bendigaid a ddathlwyd am 12.30pm ddoe, dydd Sadwrn 16 Hydref, dros yr ymadawedig.
Roedd y diweddar Syr David Amess ymhlith y rhai fu yn ein gweddïau.
Mae’n dda medru cynnig Cymun beunyddiol yn y Gadeirlan, lle gellir cyflwyno anghenion yr Eglwys a’r byd gerbron Duw. Ymunwch â ni pan fyddwch chi’n gallu.
Defodau mis Tachwedd
- Rhowch y Cymun Bendigaid ar Gân Dros y Meirw, am 5.30pm ddydd Iau 4 Tachwedd, pan fyddwn yn cadw Coffadwriaeth yr Holl Eneidiau, yn eich dyddiaduron. Ychwanegwch enwau'r ymadawedig i'w cofio mewn gweddi yn ôl eu henw yn y Cymun hwn at y rhestr yng nghefn Corff yr Eglwys neu arlein yma.
- Sylwch hefyd, ar Sul y Cofio 14 Tachwedd, bod ein gwasanaethau Cymun corawl yn cael eu disodli gan Wasanaeth Coffa am 10am, a fydd yn diweddu wrth y Gofeb.
Cyfarfod Cynulleidfaol
Bydd Cyfarfod Cynulleidfaol, fydd yn canolbwyntio ar gynigion i warchod ac adnewyddu Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant wrth inni baratoi i ddathlu mileniwm a hanner ers ei sefydlu, yn cael ei gynnal yn y Gadeirlan am 5.30pm ar ddydd Iau 21 Hydref.
Llyfryn Hydref 2021
Mynnwch gopi o’r llyfryn Hydref 2021, sy’n cynnwys llythyr oddi wrth yr Is-Ddeon, cynlluniau am y misoedd nesaf, apeliadau am gymorth, ac amlinelliad o’n defodau tan Ŵyl Crist y Brenin.
Ar y Sul ar hyn o bryd
O'r Sul hwn tan ddiwedd Tachwedd, bydd ein patrwm addoli yng Nghadeirlan Deiniol Sant yn cynnwys:
- dathliad o’r Holy Eucharist am 8.15am (gwasanaeth Saesneg)
- dathliad o’r Cymun Bendigaid ar Gân am 9.15am (yn llawen, yn lliwgar ac yn gerddorol yng Nghorff yr Eglwys; gwasanaeth Cymraeg)
- dathliad o’r Choral Holy Eucharist am 11am (eto, yn llawen, yn lliwgar ac yng Nghorff yr Eglwys; gwasanaeth Saesneg).
Caiff paned ei weini rhwng y Cymun 9.15am ac 11am – gyda gwahoddiad i aros ar ôl y Cymun 9.15am, neu ddod yn gynnar ar gyfer y Cymun 11am; bydd diodydd oer yn cael eu gweini ar ôl y Cymun 11am.
Cefnogaeth
Mae popeth sy’n digwydd yn y Gadeirlan a Bro Deiniol yn cael ei gynnal gan eich haelioni chi. Trwy roi rhodd, rydych yn ein helpu i barhau â’n gwaith hanfodol.
Atgyweirio hanfodol
Dros y misoedd i ddod, rydym yn wynebu costau atgyweirio sylweddol iawn.
Bydd angen i ni wario £22,000 ar waith iechyd a diogelwch brys – disodli rhai gwifrau trydanol hynafol, gosod mân daclau golau newydd, a diogelu’r adeilad gyda system canfod tân.
Bydd angen i ni hefyd wario £18,000 ychwanegol ar waith strwythurol a gwaith adfer – gan atal treiddiad dŵr niweidiol pellach yn Nhŵr Skeffington a Thŵr Scott, ailaddurno wal yr eil ddeheuol, ac ail-baentio wynebau’r cloc a drysau’r Gadeirlan.
Bydd yr atgyweiriadau hyn yn paratoi’r ffordd ar gyfer prosiect mwy i warchod ac adnewyddu Cadeirlan Deiniol Sant wrth inni baratoi i dathlu ein penblwydd yn fileniwm a hanner maes o law.

Lighting in the Nave and Aisles
We are delighted that work will commence during the week beginning 31 October to replace the light fittings in the Nave and the Aisles, supported by new wiring.
This work is not a complete and permanent rewiring of the Nave and the Aisles – that work will need to await a more comprehensive project.
Sadly, this means that a small amount of the new wiring will be more conspicuous; however, the need for working lights means that this is a price worth paying, and it will spur us on to a bigger project.
The new light fittings themselves are permanent replacements and will be slightly more sympathetic to the fabric of the Cathedral than those currently in place. They will also be significantly more environmentally friendly.
A moveable scaffolding tower will need to be erected while the work takes place – which will cause some minimal but unavoidable inconvenience. It will also allow is to address some areas of discolouration caused by historic water penetration at height.
This is all costly work – please bear this in mind in terms of your financial support to the Cathedral.
The Queen’s Green Canopy
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Everyone from individuals to community groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and companies are being encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October 2021 and March 2022.
We are delighted that Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Gwynedd, Edmund Seymour Bailey, has given a tree to the Cathedral, to be planted in the Cathedral Close on behalf of the primary schools of Bangor.
The tree planting ceremony, in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant, the Chair of Gwynedd Council, and parties of children from Bangor’s primary schools, took place this past Friday.
The tree is planted to the east of the Cathedral’s east window.
The Sub-Dean and the Canon for Congregational Life took part in the dedication ceremony, and the prayer that follows was used.
We are grateful to our friends from the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust, who were on hand to supervise the digging of the hole in an archaeologically sensitive patch of land.
Almighty God, you teach us that your way, your future to us, is like the mustard seed – tiny in our hands, but full of promise, giving birth to a mighty tree that shelters the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth.
We give you thanks for Her Majesty The Queen – for her life of service under the shadow of your wing; for the stability of her reign, sheltering our nations. We give you thanks for your creation, your shelter for us, given to us as our earthly home; a canopy for which we have care, that it might shelter future generations in turn.
+ Bless this tree – a sign to us of the promise of new life; of our stewardship of creation; and of the branches of faithfulness, love and duty that bind us one to another in this Kingdom, in our community, in our schools, and in your service, now and for the ages to come;
Through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Holy Eucharist of Requiem
The Holy Eucharist celebrated at 12.30pm yesterday, Saturday 16 October, was offered as a Holy Eucharist of Requiem for the departed.
The late Sir David Amess was among those remembered in our prayers.
It is good to have a daily Eucharist offered at the Cathedral, at which the needs of the Church and the world can be held before God. Please join us when you are able.
Observances in November
- Please place the Choral Holy Eucharist of Requiem, at 5.30pm on Thursday 4 November, when we will be keeping the Commemoration of All Souls, in your diaries. Please add names of the departed to be prayed for by name at this Eucharist to the list at the back of the Nave or online here.
- Please also note that, on Remembrance Sunday 14 November, our choral Eucharist services are replaced by a 10am Service of Remembrance, which will conclude at the War Memorial.
Congregational Meeting
A Congregational Meeting, focusing on proposals to conserve and recondition Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral as we prepare to celebrate our millennium and a half anniversary, will be held in the Cathedral at 5.30pm this Thursday 21 October.
Autumn 2021 booklet
Be sure to get a copy of the Autumn 2021 booklet, which includes a letter from the Sub-Dean, plans for the coming months, appeals for help, and an outline of our observances until the Feast of Christ the King.
On Sundays
From this Sunday until the end of November, our pattern of worship at Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral consists of:
- a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 8.15am (quietly in the Presbytery; an English-language service)
- a celebration of the Cymun Bendigaid ar Gân at 9.15am (joyfully, colourfully and musically in the Nave; a Welsh-language service)
- a celebration of the Choral Holy Eucharist at 11am (again, joyfully, colourfully and musically in the Nave; an English-language service)
Coffee and tea are served between the 9.15am and 11am Eucharist – please stay after the 9.15am Eucharist, or come early for the 11am Eucharist; a drinks reception follows the 11am Eucharist.

Vital repairs
Over the months ahead, we’re facing very substantial repair costs.
We will need to spend £22,000 on urgent health and safety work – replacing some ancient electrical wiring, installing new light fittings, and protecting the building with a fire detection system.
We will also need to spend another £18,000 on structural and restoration work – preventing further damaging water penetration in the Skeffington Tower and the Scott Tower, redecorating the south aisle wall, and repainting the clock faces and the Cathedral doors.
These repairs will pave the way for a bigger project to conserve and recondition Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral as we prepare to celebrate our millennium and a half anniversary.
