Y newyddion diweddaraf o Gadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor a Bro Deiniol

Y Sul hwn a'r wythnos o'n blaenau...

Adfent 2023

Ysgrifenna’r Is-Ddeon:

Mae tymor yr Adfent bron â chyrraedd, ac mae’n Sul yr Adfent eleni ar 3 Rhagfyr 2023. Mae hi’n rhyw deimlo fel y Nadolig eisoes yn rhai o siopau’r Stryd Fawr, ond mae tymor yr Adfent yn caniatáu amser cysegredig i ni baratoi ar gyfer gwir ddirgeledd yr Ŵyl, ac i fyfyrio ar arwyddocâd dyfodiad Duw i’n plith ar yr orig dywyllaf ac yn niniweidrwydd bregus baban Bethlehem.

Gwn y bydd dirgeledd ac ystyr y Nadolig a’r baban Iesu, sydd inni’n gwir a’n hunig hedd, ar flaen y meddwl eleni, wrth inni gynnal ein byd bregus a’i wyll mewn gweddi ger bron Duw.

Cynhelir ein Defod Hwyrol ar Sul yr Adfent yng ngolau cannwyll am 6.00pm ar 3 Rhagfyr. Bydd y Côr yn canu symudiadau agoriadol mawreddog Gwylnos Sergei Rachmaninoff, wrth i ni, mewn cerddoriaeth, carol, gair a gweddi, baratoi ar gyfer llewyrch datguddiadol ein “Duw gyda ni.”

Ymunwch â ni am 6.00pm ar Sul yr Adfent, a gwahoddwch eraill i ddod gyda chi am ennyd anghenus a phrydferth o fawl a gweddi. Gellir cadw sedd fan hyn.

Rhun ap Iorwerth

Fel rhan o alwedigaeth y Gadeirlan i ymgysylltu â chymuned a chymdeithas, nos Lun nesaf rydym yn croesawu Rhun ap Iorwerth, arweinydd newydd Plaid Cymru, i’r Gadeirlan. O 6.30pm tan 7.30pm, bydd yn sgwrsio â’r Is-Ddeon ac aelodau’r gynulleidfa am ein helbul cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol presennol, a bydd yn myfyrio hefyd ar ei alwedigaeth ei hun wrth i’w arweinyddiaeth o’r Blaid ddechrau.

Digwyddiad rhad ac am ddim, a gellir cadw sedd fan hyn.

Bydd hon yn sesiwn ddwyieithog, gyda chyfle i gyfranwyr siarad yn Gymraeg a Saesneg, a gyda chyfleusterau cyfieithu ar y pryd.

Mae’r digwyddiad hwn yn dilyn ein gwasanaeth Corawl Evensong, sy’n dechrau am 5.30pm. Cynhelir derbyniad gwin o 6.15pm, ac ar ôl y digwyddiad.

Anrhegion Nadolig i’r Banc Bwyd

Y llynedd bu inni gasglu a lapio rhoddion heb fod yn fwyd fel anrhegion Nadolig i’r rhai sy’n defnyddio Banc Bwyd y Gadeirlan. Gwerthfawrogwyd yr anrhegion yn fawr a hoffem roi anrhegion eto eleni.

Mae oedolion sengl, yn enwedig dynion, yn aml yn cael eu hanwybyddu, felly rydym yn canolbwyntio ar roddion ar gyfer y grŵp hwn.

Mae awgrymiadau ar gyfer y math o eitemau a fyddai fwyaf defnyddiol i oedolion yn cynnwys: hetiau, sgarffiau, menig, teits a sanau trwchus, dillad isaf thermol, siwmperi / “fleece” cynnes; pethau ymolchi fel siampŵ, diaroglydd, hufen dwylo; dyddiaduron / llyfrau nodiadau bach sylfaenol, beiros, llyfrau pos, waledi. Gofynnwn i eitemau dillad fod yn newydd, ac i nwyddau ymolchi beidio a chynnwys raseli neu eitemau sy’n cynnwys alcohol, ac y gallent fod uwchlaw’r ystod sylfaenol o nwyddau i’w gwneud yn fwy arbennig.

Bydd tîm o stiwardiaid y Gadeirlan yn gweithio’n galed i lapio’r anrhegion, ond byddai rhoddion o fagiau anrhegion Nadolig canolig / mawr, papur lapio a thagiau anrheg yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi.

Hoffem gael rhoddion erbyn dydd Sul 26 Tachwedd, ac yn gynt na hynny os yn bosibl, i roi amser i’r anrhegion gael eu dosbarthu cyn y Nadolig.

This Sunday and the week ahead...

Advent 2023

The Sub-Dean writes:

The season of Advent is almost up us, and Advent Sunday falls this year on 3 December 2023. It may feel like Christmas already in some of the High Street shops, but the season of Advent allows us hallowed time to prepare for the mystery of Christmas, and to ponder the significance of the coming of God into our midst at the darkest hour and in the vulnerability of the child of Bethlehem.

The mystery and meaning of Christmas and of the Christ child, who is our true and only peace, should be at the fore of our minds this year, as we hold our vulnerable, benighted world in prayer.

Our Evening Liturgy of Advent Sunday will take place by candlelight at 6.00pm on the evening of 3 December. The Choir will sing the majestic opening movements of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Vespers, as we, in music, carol, sacred word and prayer, prepare for and ponder the revelatory light of “God with us”.

Please join us at 6.00pm on Advent Sunday, and please invite others to come along with you to a needful, beautiful time of worship and prayer. Seats can be reserved here.

Rhun ap Iorwerth

As part of the Cathedral’s vocation to engage with community and society, this coming Monday evening we welcome Rhun ap Iorwerth, the new leader of Plaid Cymru, to the Cathedral. From 6.30pm until 7.30pm, he will be in conversation with the Sub-Dean and audience members about our current national and international turmoil, and will be reflecitng also on his own vocation as his leadership of Plaid begins.

Entry is free and seats can be reserved here.

This will be a bilingual session, with the opportunity for contributors to speak in Welsh and English, and with simultaneous translation facilities.

This event follows our service Choral Evensong, which begins at 5.30pm. A drinks reception takes place from 6.15pm, and after the event.

Christmas gifts for the Cathedral Foodbank

Last year we gathered and gift-wrapped non-food donations as Christmas gifts for those who use the Cathedral Foodbank. The gifts were much appreciated and we would like to give gifts again this year.

Single adults, particularly men, are often overlooked, so we are concentrating on donations for this group.

Suggestions for the sort of items that would be most useful for adults include: hats, scarves, gloves, thick tights and socks, thermal underwear, warm jumpers / fleeces; toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant, hand cream; basic small diaries / notebooks, pens, puzzle books, wallets. We ask that clothing items are new, and that toiletries not include razors or items containing alcohol, and might be above the basic range if possible to make them more special.

A team of Cathedral stewards will work hard to wrap the gifts, but donations of medium / large Christmas gift bags, wrapping paper and gift tags would be appreciated.

We would like to have donations by Sunday 26 November, and even earlier if possible, to give time for the gifts to be distributed before Christmas.

Bring and Share Lunch

Our next Bring & Share Lunch will take place at 12.15pm, following the Choral Holy Eucharist on 17 December.
