O'r Ddarllenfa

Y newyddion diweddaraf o Gadeirlan Deiniol Sant ym Mangor a Bro Deiniol

Hysbys wythnosol

Côr gwadd

Mae’n wych y bydd ein darpariaeth gorawl yn parhau dros fisoedd yr haf, er ar batrwm ysgafnach nac yn ystod y tymor corawl llawn. Byddwn hefyd yn croesawu ambell gôr gwadd, a daw yw cael cwmni Coniuctio Septentrionales Cantores yn y tri gwasanaeth corawl heddiw.

Cinio Dewch i Rannu

Ar ddydd Sul 31 Gorffennaf, y Seithfed Sul wedi’r Drindod, cynhelir Cinio Dewch i Rannu ar ôl y Choral Holy Eucharist. Bydd y Cinio Dewch i Rannu yn gyfle am sgwrs, difyrrwch, croeso a charedigrwydd. Mae croeso i bawb o bob rhan o gymuned y Gadeirlan fynychu, ac ni chodir tâl. Os gallwch ddod â rhywfaint o fwyd bys a bawd i’w rannu wrth y bwrdd, gwnewch hynny. Os hoffech gael rhywfaint o gyngor ar beth i ddod, siaradwch â Canon Jane Coutts.

Cabidwl y Gadeirlan a Chyfarfodydd Cynulleidfaol

Cynhelir cyfarfod o Gabidwl y Gadeirlan (clerigion a lleygwyr o bob cwr o’r esgobaeth a thu hwnt sydd â chyfrifoldeb llywodraethu dros fywyd y Gadeirlan fel ei hymddiriedolwyr elusennol) ar 27 Gorffennaf.

Cynhelir Cyfarfodydd Cynulleidfaol yn y Gadeirlan am 6.30pm, ar ôl Gosber (am 5.30pm) ar y dyddiau canlynol: 29 Medi, 8 Rhagfyr.

Gwaith ein tîm clywedol yng Nghadeirlan Guildford

Gwaith i adeiledd y Gadeirlan

Mae gwaith ar chwythwr organau pib y Gadeirlan yn parhau i ddigwydd ac yn mynd yn dda. Rydym yn ddiolchgar i’n cerddorion am wneud iawn am y llai o rymoedd cerddorol sydd ar gael inni oherwydd bod rhannau o’r organ yn cael eu dadgomisiynu yn ystod y gwaith, y disgwylir iddo gael ei gwblhau yn ystod mis Awst.

Mae rhifyn cyfredol Buchedd Bangor yn amlinellu’r gwaith a fydd yn digwydd yn ystod Awst a Medi i osod system glywedol newydd yn y Gadeirlan.

Dros fisoedd yr haf a’r hydref, rydym hefyd yn disgwyl i sgaffaldiau gael eu codi o amgylch Tŵr Ysgefitwn (ym mhen gorllewinol y Gadeirlan) ac ochr Stryd Fawr Tŵr Scott (ym mhwynt canolog y Gadeirlan) i ailbwyntio’r gwaith maen (sy’n angenrheidiol i atal treiddiad dŵr). Tra bod y sgaffaldiau’n cael eu codi o amgylch Tŵr Skeffington, bydd wynebau’r cloc hefyd yn cael eu hadfer a’u hailbeintio.

Darn olaf o waith cynnal a chadw i’w wneud dros yr haf ac i mewn i’r hydref yw adfer prif ddrysau’r Gadeirlan. Bydd gwaith metel y cloeon a’r bolltau yn cael eu trin a’u hadnewyddu, a bydd y drysau eu hunain yn cael eu hail-baentio yn arlliw o fyrgwnd croesawgar a llawen.

Ar gyfer cyfarfod Cabidwl y Gadeirlan, mae’r dylunydd dodrefn Luke Hughes yn paratoi prototeipiau o ddodrefn newydd ar gyfer Corff yr Eglwys. Gobaith y Cabidwl yw gallu cymeradwyo set newydd o ddodrefn ar gyfer Corff yr Eglwys (gan gynnwys meinciau seddau, bwrdd yr allor a stondinau côr) sydd wedi’u dylunio’n benodol i gydgysylltu â chynllun addurniadol Scott ar gyfer to Corff yr Eglwys a’r Cwîr a’r Seintwar, tra hefyd yn hyblyg ac yn symudol i ymdopi â hyblygrwydd y defnydd cynyddol sy’n cael ei wneud ar hyn o bryd o adeilad y Gadeirlan yn feunyddiol. Bydd manylion llawn y cynllun yn cael eu hamlinellu yn rhifyn Medi Buchedd Bangor, a bydd cyfle i bawb weld a gwneud sylwadau ar brototeipiau Luke Hughes dros yr wythnosau nesaf.

Siaradwch â’r Is-Ddeon neu â’n Rheolwr Prosiect Cadwraeth a Datblygu, Simon Ogdon, os hoffech wybod mwy am unrhyw agwedd ar y gwaith cadwraeth a datblygu hyn.

Buchedd Bangor

Weekly notices

Bring & Share Lunch

On Sunday 31 July, the Seventh Sunday after Trinity, a Bring & Share Lunch will take place after the 11am Choral Holy Eucharist. The Bring & Share Lunch will be an opportunity for conversation, conviviality, welcome and kindness. All from across the Cathedral community are welcome to attend, and there is no charge. If you are able to bring some finger-food to be shared at the common table, please do so. If you would like some advice on what to bring, please speak to Canon Jane Coutts.

Visiting choir

We’re delighted that our choral provision will continue over the summer months, albeit in a lighter mode than during the full choral season. We will also welcome the occasional guest choir, and are delighted to have the musical forces of Coniuctio Septentrionales Cantores singing at today’s three choral services.

Cathedral Chapter & Congregational Meetings

A meeting of the Cathedral Chapter (clergy and lay people from across the diocese and beyond who have a governance responsibility for the life of the Cathedral as its charity trustees) takes place on 27 July.

Congregational Meetings will take place in the Cathedral at 6.30pm, after Evensong (at 5.30pm) on the following days: 29 September, 8 December.

Works to the Cathedral fabric

Works to the Cathedral’s pipe organ blower are continuing to take place and going well. We are grateful to our musicians for compensating for the reduced musical forces at our disposal due to parts of the organ being decommissioned for the duration of the works, which are expected to be completed during August.

The current issue of Buchedd Bangor outlines the work that will take place during August and September to install a new audio-visual system in the Cathedral.

Over the summer months and into the autumn, we also expect scaffolding to be erected around the Skeffington Tower (at the west end of the Cathedral) and the High Street side of the Scott Tower (at the central point of the Cathedral) to undertake repointing of the masonry (necessary to prevent water penetration). While the scaffolding is erected around the Skeffington Tower, the clock faces will also be restored and repainted.

A final piece of maintenance to be undertaken over the summer and into the autumn is the restoration of the Cathedral’s main doors. The metalwork of the locks and bolts will be conserved and renewed, and the doors themselves will be repainted a shade of welcoming and joyful burgundy.

For the Cathedral Chapter meeting, the furniture designer Luke Hughes is preparing prototypes of new furniture for the Nave of the Cathedral. The Chapter’s hope is to be able to commend a new set of furniture for the Nave (including pew benches, altar-table and choir stalls) that are specifically designed to coordinate with the Scott decorative scheme for the Nave roof and the Quire and Presbytery, while also being flexible and moveable to accommodate with flexibility the greater day-to-day use that is currently being made of the Cathedral building. Full details of the scheme will be outlined in the September issue of Buchedd Bangor, and there will be an opportunity for the all to see and comment on the Luke Hughes prototypes over the weeks ahead.

Please speak to the Sub-Dean or to our Conservation & Development Project Manager, Simon Ogdon, if you would like to know more about any aspect of these maintenance, conservation and development works.

Buchedd Bangor

The fourth edition of Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor's new magazine

This fourth edition is a companion to the summer months. It offers a mixture of devotional material and practical knowledge about our life together.

Click on the image above to read a copy.

The intention is to publish five issues of Buchedd Bangor over the course of the year, each coinciding with a specific period in the Cathedral’s worshipping life, and complementing a series of Sunday morning sermons that will guide us through each period.
