Weekly notices
The Platinum Jubilee
The Sub-Dean writes:
I am grateful to all who gave so generously of their time and talent to our series of events to celebrate the Jubilee.
It has been wonderful to see so many people crossing the threshold and welcomed so warmly to such well-prepared activities at the Cathedral.
Thank you, all, very much.
My Place
Saturday 18 June at 7.30pm
“My Place” is a dramatic production by Riding Lights Theatre Company that explores the journeys of four young people with no place to call home.
Bounced between social workers and different homes, defined by immigration documents and court reports, mistrusted and mistreated, can they find somewhere to be themselves?
The remarkable journeys of these lively, resourceful children unfold through story and song, asking us to consider what place we might have in their lives.
Tickets are available online here or from Naomi for £10.
Pride
June is the month of Pride events in many cities.
Pride here means the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) people.
At the Cathedral this June, we’re fly the Pride flag for the first time from the Skeffington Tower, and hosting a number of significant events.
It was good to host the diocesan LGTBQ+ Chaplaincy Eucharist yesterday; and it will be good to welcome the Bangor Pride parade onto the Cathedral grounds and to the Deanery garden on 25 June.
There are two other elements in our programme:
Clas on Zoom

Thursday 23 June at 6.30pm
In May 2021 Owen Hurcum became Mayor of Bangor, and also the first openly non-binary mayor of any city in the world.
During their term as Mayor, Owen has spoken eloquently in favour of transgender rights.
Owen returns to the Cathedral for this open and public conversation with the Sub-Dean in the Nave of the Cathedral.
A free drinks reception is held from 6pm (after Choral Evensong at 5.30pm), and again after the discussion.

Buchedd Bangor
The third edition of Saint Deiniol’s Cathedral in Bangor's new magazine
This third edition is a companion to the period to the end of June. It offers a mixture of devotional material and practical knowledge about our life together.
Click on the image above to read a copy.
The intention is to publish five issues of Buchedd Bangor over the course of the year, each coinciding with a specific period in the Cathedral’s worshipping life, and complementing a series of Sunday morning sermons that will guide us through each period.
